Manifestiation

Manifestiation / Maurice White (2024)
I went to see EWF's first tour in 8 years.
I bought a CD I had never heard of before at the merchandise corner.

Manifestation

Unfortunately, Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, passed away in 2016 from Parkinson's disease.

The sadness he felt at that time was considerable for me.

Maurice only released one solo album, Maurice White

スタンド・バイ・ミー(期間生産限定盤) - モーリス・ホワイト
However, in 2019, several songs he had recorded were discovered.

12 songs produced with singer-songwriter Priston Grass.

The songs were recorded between 1991 and 2001.

These were the songs that were played at the venue before the start of Earth, Wind & Fire Japan Tour 2025.

It's exciting to hear Maurice's vocals for the first time!

There are probably some songs that were written for the Earth, Wind & Fire album but didn't make it.

Wiggle, featuring kalimba, is used in the interlude of "The Promise".

These songs are catchy and typical of Maurice.

Even though so much time has passed since his death, it's really nice to be able to listen to an album written and sung by Maurice White!

What's more, it seems there are still more demo songs, and the last two could be solo singles.

I definitely want them to be released.

1. Sweet Surrender

2. Panic Button

3. Storybook Love

4. Laid Back Aphrodisiac

5. I Couldn't Be Me Without You

6. Breakin' In A Brand New Heart (Interlude)

7. True Love Is Forever

8. Wiggle (Long Version)

9. To The Top

10. Young Hearts

11. You're Supposed To Say You Love Me Too

12. Before The Day You Were Born

Earth,Wind & Fire Japan Tour 2025

On April 20th, I went to see the Earth, Wind & Fire Japan Tour at Pia Arena MM. IMG_20250420_141105.jpg
This time, Nile Rodgers and Chic were the guests, so it was a great opportunity to see two big groups live at once.

This was my first time at Pia Arena, but it was a large venue with seating up to the fourth floor.

I was sitting on the left side of the stage on the second floor.

First off, CHIC's live performance.

It's a bit tiring to watch stand-up from the first song...

There were a lot of songs I knew.

And Nile Rodgers has written hit songs for many artists.

Nile's soulful voice and the power of the female vocals were worth listening to.

However, although Pia Arena is a fine facility...

it was a bit disappointing that the sound seemed to echo off the walls and distort.

Not only did they sing CHIC originals, but they also performed hits by David Bowie, Diana Ross, Madonna, and others...
It was a wonderful performance. Best of Chic<Yogaku Best 1300 SHM-CD> - Chic, Chic, Bernard Edwards, Rogers, Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, Kenny Lehmann

After about an hour, there was a break to change the stage set.
I went to smoke a cigarette, but the line was all the way up the stairs, so it took quite a while.
The EWF live starts.
Songs are played little by little with past album jackets in the background.
And then the EWF members appear.
This time, Verdine White is absent due to medical treatment.
This is the first EWF live without him.
They play old classics with different arrangements.
This time around, I feel like Davit Whitworth and Philip Bairy Jr. are taking on more lead roles.
It seems like they're now taking on the parts previously sung by Mourice White.

It was a powerful and wonderful live performance that was really worth listening to and watching.
It was fun...
Photography and video recording were prohibited at this performance.
Even so, many people were taking photos and uploading them to social media.
I wanted to take a photo too, but it seems unfair... Greatest Hits - Earth Wind & Fire
